Afefe Iku>The Blues

Yoruba Records proudly present the return of Afefe Iku. Returning after a four year hiatus with is his first release since his 2008 debut album and smash hit Mirror Dance, here we have a four song EP entitled ‘The Blues’. With his eclectic force and sound, Afefe brings us another chapter in his developing story. ‘The Blues’ gives us the dark edge of deeper techno, whereas ‘The Arsonist’ is an in your face mid tempo head banger featuring Osunlade on vocals. ‘Dakountdown’ and ‘Jungle Beats’ stand alone in style and approach as a throwback to the days when house was simply just house, without the multitude of today’s dance genres. Yoruba pray that you embrace the next wave of sound from the mind of the man who brought you the classic ‘Artifacts Of Pottery Vessels’.

RELEASE INFO:
June 2012 will mark MoreHouse Records 10 Year Anniversary! Over the years MoHo has built a reputation for introducing amazing artists and delivering top shelf releases that not only makes you wanna move your body, but also touches the spirit and soul. All of that is in abundance here on their latest offering “Born To Flow. ” Kickin’ things off for the label’s milestone achievement and year long celebration, Groove Junkies’ Evan Landes and Baskerville Jones team up for their first, of what will hopefully be many future studio collaborations. The end result from their initial endeavor is a soul drenched song that’s rich in melody and content, and showcases Ms Jones superb instrument.

Baskerville’s gift was nurtured early on while performing the raw, captivating sound of Gospel Music in her hometown of Nashville. As her passion for music grew, she ventured into studying other styles of music including classical and jazz. With influences such as Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, and Dinah Washington, she channeled all that was great from them into helping her find her own voice in the vast industry. The unique sound she created explores a variety of tones that fit every emotion. A sound often described as one of pure power, passion and a hint of that traditional “Southern Soul.” After moving to Los Angeles, she found herself in the company of the “who’s who” in music. Often crossing several genres, she has shared the stage with various major artists including Chrisette Michelle, Heather Headley, Anthony Hamilton, Dwele, and Mary Mary, to name a few. Aside from gracing us with her talent on her first ever ’House’ record, Baskerville is currently recording with the popular LA based Neo Soul / R & B band The Rebirth for their new highly anticipated album.

MIX DESCRIPTIONS:

GJs deft front man Evan Landes turns in a ’Classic’ GJ vocal mix which features additional keyboard work from MoHo whiz kid Corey Allen and longtime Groove Junkies bass player Les ’The Machine’ King. The mix features atmospheric shades of deep, a sprinkle of jazz & tech and a healthy heaping of soul. GJs Club Mix borrows from the ’classic,’ but strips it down a tad, while turning up the heat a few notches! Both mixes take you on a lyrical, melodic and musical journey that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Vintage Groove Junkies!

One of So. Africa’s finest imports, Shane D, has produced remixes for the likes of CeCe Peniston, Roland Clark, Lisa Millet, DJ Meme, Andy Ward, Ananda Project, John “Julius” Knight and many more. This time around Shane delivers his trademark mix of Funk, followed by a dash of Soul, with a hint of sex appeal and added together with a groove that will blow you away. The cat was let out of the bag last month when Shane’s remix was spotlighted as a ’worldwide exclusive’ on Grant Nelson’s syndicated radio show Housecall and received a ton of inquiries from the ’HC’ faithful.

This one is fully baked and hot out of the oven. It’s time to ’flow’ ya’ll! Enjoy!!
